Jessica Cappa, '97, was honored by WCA Hospital as its 2016 Nurse of Distinction.WCA Hospital has announced that Jessica Cappa, BSN, RN, '97, has been named the hospital's 2016 Nurse of Distinction. WCA Hospital awards the distinction to an outstanding registered nurse who displays outstanding achievement; is a role model; possesses professional standards and leadership skills; is an advocate for health care and the nursing profession; and is involved in his or her community. The honoree is nominated by his or her colleagues and selected by the hospital's Nurse of Distinction Committee, which is comprised of recipients from previous years.

Cappa, a nurse in the Emergency Department at WCA, earned her degree in nursing from JCC and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing from Daemen College. She began working at WCA Hospital as a graduate nurse on the hospital's 5D Nursing Unit before moving to the Emergency Department in September 2000. 

In her opening remarks at the celebration, Emelia Lindquist-Harley, MSN, RN, the director of nursing and emergency department nurse manager at WCA Hospital, said this of Jessica: "Today, we recognize the distinguished work of Jessica, who sets the bar high for her colleagues. She is a hard working, professional, and passionate individual. She is incredibly proud to be part of this hospital and continuously works at improving professional practice, not just in the Emergency Department, but throughout the hospital. She is a role model of compassion, caring and advocacy."
