I will also try even harder to drink tap water instead of bottled water, so I am not wasting all that packaging (nearly 90% of plastic water bottles are not recycled). I will turn off my computer at night, by turning off our computers instead of leaving it in sleep mode; we can save 40 watt-hours per day. I will use one less napkin, during an average year, an American uses approximately 2,200 napkins (If everyone in the U.S. used one less napkin a day, more than a billion pounds of napkins could be saved from landfills each year). I will use both sides of the paper; American businesses throw away 21 million tons of paper every year (let's cut this in half). I will continue to reuse gift bags. I will shower with a partner or shorten my showers! I will use my cruise control more often because when using cruise control our vehicles could get up to 15% better mileage. I love buying items from a second-hand store, reuse! I will start to pay attention to turning the lights off when I leave the room. When my phone no longer works I will be sure to recycle it, so toxins don't get into those landfills. I will start investing in rechargeable batteries. I have already started paying bills online and I also get my bank statement online to save paper and time. Start using recyclable grocery bags, instead of the plastic because they are not biodegradable, and are making their way into our oceans, and even the food chain. And last but not least I will forward this and encourage others to do the same. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle :)
