Jayhawks Fall to Mercyhurst North East Grapplers

Jamestown Community College dropped its NJCAA Region 3 dual meet with Mercyhurst North East, the 10th ranked team in the national NJCAA rankings, by a 30-12 decision in Jamestown on Tuesday night.
The Jayhawks were led by a pin fall victory from freshman Dylan Freedman (East Ridge), wrestling at 165-pounds. Freedman scored the pin at 2:39 over Hasan Edmondson. Also victorious for JCC were sophomore Max Murray (Jamestown/Jamestown High School) and freshman Chase Stevens (Harrisonburg, Va.). Murray the win via a 5-2 decision over Mercyhurst’s Corbin Ellis at 157, while Stevens recorded a 5-2 victory over Julio Trujillo at 285. Trujillo, a Maryland product, had entered the week ranked sixth overall in the nation at 285-pounds.
Mercyhurst’s lone pin fall came from Timothy Hubbard at 133.
JCC returns to action Jan. 23 and 24 for the New York State Championship at Cornell University, which begins at 11 a.m. The Jayhawks next hit the home mats on Jan. 29.
